PDF to Text

PDF · TEXT · TXT

Extract the text inside a PDF, preview it, then copy it or save it as a .txt file. Choose pages, line breaks and page separators. Nothing is uploaded.

Your files are processed right here in your browser. Nothing is uploaded or stored on a server.pdf.js (Apache-2.0)

Good to know. Scanned (image) PDFs have no text — try Image to Text (OCR). Columns, tables and vertical text may come out of order, and some fonts may produce garbled characters.

HOW TO

How to use

  1. Drop or choose the PDF you want to extract text from.
  2. Optionally type a page range such as 1-3, 5, 8-. Leave it empty for all pages.
  3. Choose how line breaks are handled (keep PDF lines or join into paragraphs) and how pages are separated.
  4. Check the preview, then copy the text or save it as a .txt file.

FAQ

FAQ

Why is nothing extracted from my scanned PDF?

Scanned or photographed PDFs store pictures of the pages, not text, so there is nothing to extract. Convert the pages to images and use an image OCR tool instead.

Does it work with Korean, Chinese or Japanese text?

Yes. If the PDF contains real text, CJK character maps (CMaps) are used to read it. PDFs whose fonts lack character information may still come out garbled.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. Text is extracted entirely inside your browser and the file is never sent anywhere.
