FAQ

FAQ

Is my microphone audio recorded or uploaded?

No. The browser's Web Audio analyzer processes it on your device and turns it into visuals. Nothing is recorded, saved or sent, and the mic isn't played back through your speakers, so there's no feedback. Press Stop to turn the mic off immediately.

The microphone won't turn on.

If you blocked access, click the lock icon (site settings) left of the address bar, allow the microphone and try again. It may also fail if a video call app is using the mic, and browsers block microphones on non-https pages. You can always use the demo sound instead.

What is the demo sound?

It isn't a recording. It's a 112 BPM loop synthesized live with oscillators: an arpeggio over Am–F–C–G chords with bass, kick and hi-hat.

How accurate are the frequency and note readings?

They're estimates taken from the strongest peak in a 2048-sample FFT. The bins are about 21–23 Hz apart, so low notes are less precise, and chords or noise can make it pick up overtones. It isn't a replacement for a precise tuner, and the dB level is relative to your mic input, not a calibrated sound level meter.
