How to use

  1. Choose 3 or 4 digits. The computer picks a secret number with no repeated digits.
  2. Enter a guess with the number pad or your keyboard and press Go.
  3. A strike (S) is a right digit in the right spot, a ball (B) is a right digit in the wrong spot, and Out means no matching digits.
  4. Use the clues in your history to narrow it down. Get a strike in every spot to win.

What's the difference between a strike and a ball?

A strike means one of your digits is correct and in the right position (a “bull”). A ball means the digit is in the secret number but in a different position (a “cow”).

Can digits repeat?

No. Both the secret number and your guesses use different digits, from 0 to 9.

How many tries does it usually take?

With good reasoning, a 3-digit game usually takes 5 to 7 guesses. Your best score for each length is saved in this browser.
